Tamara Hanson Obituary

Tamara Hanson (née Odell) was peacefully called home to be with her Lord on April 21st, 2022, under hospice care at the home of her sister and brother-in-law in Augusta, GA - one day after her 67th birthday.

Tam was born in Iowa City, IA to Shirlee (née Akers) and Robert Dean Odell on April 20th, 1955. She spent her first 12 years in West Liberty, IA, and her teenage and early adult years in Iowa City. She had a brief marriage to Richard Glenn Evers Jr. She later met and married the late Jerry Joe Hanson on October 15th, 1976. They spent most of their married life in Floresville, TX. Joe preceded her in death on October 25th, 2017.

She completed her courses in medical terminology with distinction and dearly loved being a medical transcriptionist. She especially enjoyed the many years she taught medical billing and coding and took pride in the fact that her students went on to do meaningful work.

Tam lived an active life full of volunteering, learning and creativity. She took classes in painting, drawing and self-defense, volunteered for a cat sterilization program, and was a tireless sponsor/volunteer for the Floresville AA chapter. She was an avid sewing enthusiast and took up quilting, being part of several quilting groups in San Antonio and Floresville. She took pleasure in playing the piano and various other instruments. She was a faithful pen pal, enjoyed Bible studies and was devoted to helping anyone in need. She was an active member of the Floresville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her mother Shirlee Odell of Augusta, GA; sister Kelly Odell and brother-in-law James Anderson of Augusta, GA; sister Holly Odell of Nashville, TN; aunt Anna Asch of West Bend, WI; aunt Libby Akers of Atlanta, GA; aunt and uncle Dianne and Gene Paetz of Prescott, AZ; son Richard (Ricky) Glenn Evers III plus numerous cousins, many friends and her beloved cat Midnight.

In addition to her husband Joe, she is predeceased by her father, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The family would like to extend their appreciation for the compassionate care given to Tam by Transcend Hospice of San Antonio, TX and Affinis Hospice of Augusta, GA.

A memorial service in celebration of Tam’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 11th, 2022, at 11:30am at Floresville United Methodist Church, 1205 B St., Floresville, TX. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 11:00am. Lunch will be served directly after the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Floresville Food Pantry would be appreciated, P.O. Box 372, Floresville, TX 78114.
