Michael Hegre Obituary

Michael “Bear" Duane Hegre, age 61, died on Monday, October 11, 2021 at his residence after fighting a brave battle against non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 3pm in the Bellevue Memorial Gardens Chapel with Rev. Dewain French officiating.

Bear was born on September 3, 1960 in Stuttgart, Germany and was the third of seven children born to Glenn and Garnet Hegre. He lived in the Augusta area since 1975 after spending his childhood living the military life in many different places.

Bear was a 1978 Harlem High School graduate and was a proud member of Gene Sullivan’s “Sweat Hogs" home room class.

After graduating high school Bear worked in several different job fields before finding his true calling with Columbia County Roads & Bridges as a truck driver with the asphalt crew.

On February 4, 1995, Bear married Raye Allison Tucker. He loved her and their fur babies, Molly, Fibber and Nikky and missed them so much after their passing.

Bear’s hobbies included working crossword puzzles, watching old western shows and movies and listening to old style country music. He loved spending time with family and friends. His greatest passion was going to the dirt track and helping out his many racing buddies (most importantly Karl Bleifus, Tim Thigpen, Stanley Gracey and Andy Stewart) in any way he could. He later became a tech at Gordon Park and Modoc Speedway.

Bear was preceded in death by his wife, Raye; his father, Glenn Hegre; his brother, Marty Hegre; a brother in law, James Williams and a great niece Taylor Hegre.

He is survived by his mother, Garnet Hegre; a brother Mark Hegre (Gia); four sisters, Lori Williams, Linda Thigpen (Tim), Lynette Hegre (David), and LeAnn Luken (Wayne); a host of nieces and nephews and very good friends Stanley Gracey and Andy Stewart.

Pallbearers will be Karl Bleifus, Robbie Lowe, Mark Newman, Johnny Parker, Mark Hughes, Jr. and Cameron Tribble.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the Bellevue Memorial Gardens Chapel.
