Linda Susan (Barrett) Vrana

Linda Susan Vrana, 70, of Evans, GA, devoted wife and mother, peacefully but unexpectedly departed this life on Friday, August 11, 2023. 

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Priscilla S. Webb and Darrell G. Webb; her mother-in-law, Mary Ann Vrana; sister-in-law, Amelia Vrana Jochims; and her niece, Alison B. Jones. Surviving family include her husband of 41 years, Calvin S. Vrana; her children, Whitney Vrana Johnson (Richard) of Greenville, SC., Philip Howell Vrana of Golden, CO., and Ethan Tyler Vrana of Denver, CO.; her sisters, Valerie W. Haney (James), Tracy Ellis (Mark Kucenski), and Angelique L. Stephenson (Thomas); and half-brother, Richard Carpenter (Martha) of Leander, TX. While she didn’t have any grandchildren of her own, she doted on several nieces, nephews, and “Grant”-children.

Linda was born on June 29, 1953, on Long Island, NY, and lived an active life of service. She graduated from Hephzibah High School (Hephzibah, GA) in 1971 and soon went to work for the City of Augusta as a data entry clerk, then in the Richmond County Tax Assessor’s office, working her way up to become Deputy Chief Tax Assessor from which she retired in July 2019. She also enjoyed working at the Augusta National gift shop during the Master’s tournament every April for several years.

Upon retiring, Linda devoted her life to volunteering as a faithful servant at Our Savior Episcopal Church in several ministries: as a Lay Eucharistic minister, vestry member as both Junior and Senior Wardens several times, community soup kitchen volunteer, Epiphany Youth Prison Ministry team member, Cursillo team member, numerous clergy search committees, and several times as a diocesan convention delegate.

Linda was both an avid Green Bay Packer backer and UGA Bulldog football fan. She spent many UGA Saturdays sharing her love of the game with family and friends either in the stands as a season ticket holder or at home during away games. On Sundays after church, it was NFL football.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at Our Savior Episcopal Church, 4227 Columbia Road, Martinez, GA 30907, with The Very Reverend Alvin B. Crumpton officiating. The service will be live-streamed at www.oursaviorepiscopal.org. UGA football attire is appropriate for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Our Savior Episcopal Church are welcome. GO DAWGS!
