Kay Vaught Obituary

Kay Estelle Jones Vaught, 61, was released from her earthly binds on March 18, 2023.

Kay was born in Augusta, GA, to Bob and Ruth Jones on November 5, 1961. She was raised in a loving home with her three older sisters, Ann, Beth, and Gail. She graduated from Evans High School, class of 1979, and earned her Bachelors of Science degree from North Georgia College in 1984, where she was a member of Alpha Gamma Delta. She became a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance and worked there for many years. Her church home for most of her life was Martinez United Methodist Church, where she attended with her parents. She met Tom Vaught, who became the one she chose to spend her life with. They were married at one of her favorite outdoor places, Clark Hill Lake, on July 3, 1991, with Rev. Milford Vaught presiding over the ceremony. From that day on, she became the stepmother to three children, Noah, Tracy, and Michael, and helped raise them alongside their dad, loving them as her own. Kay always viewed the world with wonder and amazement. She and Tom took every chance they had to travel and see the beauty of the world during their hikes runs, and drives. Her favorite times were when she and Tom were together, whether it be just the two of them, or surrounded by family and friends. Kay fought hard against the disease that took away her voice, her laughter, her words, and her mind. She always had a song on her heart, even towards the end. She loved with no conditions, could make a friend out of a complete stranger, and will always be remembered for the fire in her spirit and the smile on her face.

Kay is preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Ruth Jones; and her stepdaughter, Tracy. She is survived by her loving husband of almost 32 years, Tom; her sisters, Ann (Dennis) McCunniff, Beth (Eddie) McDonald, and Gail (Jim) Connor; stepchildren, Noah (Heather) Vaught and Michael (Aubrey) Vaught; grandchildren, Seth Justice, Krystin Robinson, Caroline Vaught, Sophia Vaught, Skylar Vaught, and Andrew Vaught; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins, and other family members. She was a friend to many, and she will be sorely missed.

"Living without you will take a lot of getting used to."

"You'll always be a fire I can't put out."
