On December 24, 2020 John Scott Sharkey entered into rest. Mr. Sharkey, known simply as “Sharkey” to his friends, was born on October 25, 1969 in Staten Island, New York. Growing up, John was an outstanding athlete who played both baseball and football. He was an avid diver and hunter and was most at peace when spending time on the ocean or in the woods. Sharkey was also the epitome of a dog lover and enjoyed his time with the K-9 Unit of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office where he served as a Deputy beginning in 2008. A talented electrician and a technology whiz, John was the consummate “Jack of All Trades”. He enjoyed serving his community and he was frequently approached by individuals he helped to incarcerate in the line of duty who shared with him that he had helped them turn their lives around. John is survived by his wife Charlene, his son Colton (fiancée Emily Yarmosh), his mother Deborah Collins (Tom), his sister Kimberly Ann Sharkey, his nephew Sam and his brother Stephen Sharkey (fiancée Sasha Adamson). He is preceded in death by his father John and his nephew Spencer. He was loved by many friends, extended family members and in-laws. A dedicated public servant, John will be missed by his family, his friends and all those whose lives he touched. In everything we find ourselves doing in life, we will remember the good and happy moments spent with you. We pray your mind and body are finally at peace. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, January 4th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Thomas L. King Funeral Home. For memorial contributions, the family has designated Natalie’s Light as their preferred charity.
