John Byne Blount, Jr.

John Byne Blount, Jr., 84, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, June 8, 2023.

He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-one years, Martha Jean Eller Blount; three sons: John Byne Blount III (Stacy), James Darril Blount, and Paul Christian Horner; four grandchildren: Barbara Blount Mathis (Cody), Brittany Blount Howell (Ethan), Brady Blount, and Jordan Blount; and two great-grandchildren, Kole Howell and Azarya Howell. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Byne Blount, Sr. and Mabel Shields Trowbridge Blount; his sister, Anne Curtis Blount Sawyer; and his daughter-in-law, Sabrina Proden Blount.

John was born in Augusta, Georgia on December 13, 1938. He graduated from the Academy of Richmond County in 1957. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army (1957-1960) and was a Vietnam veteran in the U.S. Air Force (1961-1965). Afterwards, he attended Augusta College where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Education in Special Education. He later completed Counselor Training at Augusta College and was a licensed professional counselor. John worked as a psychology technician/psychometrist for twenty-five years at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Augusta, Georgia (1971-1995) and Georgia Development Center in Gainesville, Georgia (1996-2011). He was a faithful member of Warren Baptist Church where he and his wife sang in the choir and enjoyed fellowship for many years.

The family will receive friends at 1:00pm on Friday, June 16, 2023, followed by a memorial service with military honors at 2:00pm in the Chapel at Warren Baptist Church, 3203 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia.
