Mrs. Joanne Marie Barronton Bazemore, 92, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, November 2, 2023.
Joanne is survived by her two daughters, Celia (John) Mayo and Carol Walters; five grandchildren, Ashley (Kevin) Beck, Katie Osborne, Alex (Raphaela) Osborne, Natalie Walters, and Valerie (Wyatt) West; two great-grandchildren, Aurora Beck and Brahm Beck; her niece, Jane (Bryan) Graham; and her great-nieces and great-nephew, Adrienne Graham, Jennifer (David)) Graham-Johnson, and Joseph Graham. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Barry Carter Bazemore; her sister, Florence (Joseph) Barronton Bates; and her parents, Lt. Col. Lester C Barronton and Alice Jane Graffius Barronton.
Joanne's father served in both World War I and World War II, and they lived in the Philippines while her father was stationed there. Joanne attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, Georgia, and worked for Southern Bell, Delta Airlines, and Atlanta Pediatrics. She and her husband traveled extensively, camping throughout the United States and touring many countries in Europe and Mexico. They saw beautiful cathedrals and museums and landscapes, and had many great adventures together, including riding mules down the Grand Canyon and rafting on the Colorado River and climbing the Pyramids in Mexico City and attending many events at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta.
Joanne was a Girl Scout leader in Atlanta, Georgia, and she enjoyed volunteering at Zoo Atlanta overseeing the Golden Lion Tamarin Monkeys. She was also a member of the Volusia County Archaeological Society in Daytona Beach, Florida, volunteering on many excavations, and she was a member of the Augusta Georgia Anthropological Society. Joanne enjoyed reading, genealogy, gardening, sewing, watching classical movies, and listening to music, and she also enjoyed dancing and loved dogs and was an active member at Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 16, 2023, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 825 N. Belair Road, Evans GA 30809. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time. Interment will be at Holy Hill Cemetery in Fairburn, GA.
