Obituary

James A. "Chip" Harris, II, 56, of Evans, GA and a retired peace officer, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

He was born in Aiken, SC in 1968 to James A. and Kathleen M. Harris and moved to Martinez, GA when he was in Elementary School. Chip attended Evans High School and graduated in 1988, going to work for Holroyd & Johnson Architects as a draftsman before joining the local police academy. After graduating in 1993, he joined the Columbia County Sherriffs Department as a reserve deputy. He served our area as a police officer in Harlem and Grovetown, and as a Marshall for the Columbia County Marshalls Department. He ended his career with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department. During his years in law enforcement, he earned a reputation for his compassion, integrity, and unwavering dedication to upholding the law.

Beyond his service in uniform, he was most cherished as a devoted father, grandfather, brother, son, uncle, cousin, and friend, always prioritizing time with his loved ones. Whether it was getting laughs out of his children with dad jokes, being a typical annoying big brother to his little sister, or drinking beers with his brother, cousins and friends, Chip made sure everyone knew how much he loved them.

Chip is survived by his mother, Kathleen M. Harris; sister, J. Erin Harris; daughter, Emilee Harris; brother, Roman Howerton (Ashley); sons, Andrew Justice (Ashley) and Bradley Allen (Nicole) and daughter, Heather Justice; his beloved companion, Christy Randall; grandchildren, Savannah Justice, CJ Justice, Peyton Allen, Riley Allen, Norma Allen, and Declan Dowell; cousins that might as well be siblings, Christy Fulcher (Robbie), Kelly Harris, Eric Harris, Shawn Harris, and Molly Padgett Boyleston; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, former colleagues, and the communities he dedicated his life to protecting.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church, 4921 Columbia Road, Grovetown GA 30813, with Fr. Mark Ross officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his name to the Georgia Fraternal Order of Police ( https://www.georgiafop.org/ ).
