Harry Mason Obituary

Harry Clinton Mason, 75, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, surrounded by family and a few close friends.   He fought a long hard battle with cancer yet kept a smile on his face and his humorous wit until just before his death.

Harry was born on June 2, 1946, to Clinton Harry Mason and Dorothy Boyd Mason. He leaves behind his beloved Cindy, wife of 38 years; son, Matthew (Blythe); daughter, Chelsea (Jason) Wren; son, Joshua; grandchildren, Dallas Burton Mason, Mattie Reese Mason, Cruz Mason Wren, Cooper Wren, Carter Wren, and River James Mason; his sister, Carol Duchscher; niece, Celena Duchscher and nephew, Barrett Duchscher; and many more extended relatives.

Harry was a wonderful husband, dad, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need and quite often helped others and never told, if you can imagine him keeping something to himself, but those he helped know and tell!

As a young man Harry joined the military and was a member of the United States Army Reserves.  He felt it was his duty to serve his country if only for a brief period of time.

He later worked hard all his life as an employee of Georgia Power, where he earned himself the nickname MudCat by the many folks he worked with.  Harry worked transmission lines, underground networks, overhead line constructions, and he trained hundreds of new apprentice linemen.  He also did accident investigations and was an expert witness for Georgia Power.  He was also an emergency volunteer during disasters and traveled the country doing storm restorations, from devastating ice, tornados and hurricanes.  He was most knowledgeable and could figure anything out, and as one dear friend at work said about him, if Harry told you a hummingbird could pull a 747, “you better get the rope.”

Harry was a member and spent much of his volunteer time with the Columbia County Merchants.  He especially loved hosting at the fairgrounds annually and was always the go to guy if you needed anything, or needed to get something done.

Harry was also a former member of the Columbia County Recreation Board.  He spent much time with his children at Patriots Park and spent many years coaching.  He traveled with his daughter and son playing soccer about as many miles as traveling with Georgia Power.

Harry was a family man and he loved his children, treasured his wife and adored grandchildren.  He was talker, a friend to everyone.  His cheerful disposition and likable personality drew people in.  He enjoyed working in his yard and gardening, and in earlier years loved fishing and golf.  He was kind to everyone and his vivacious and giving spirit will be missed by many.  He loved a good practical joke, was always up to foolishness and never at a loss to offer up “Harry’s Helpful Hints!”

His constant companions who will mourn him terribly are his two maltese fur babies, Lucy and Jeddy, who were a constant source of love and snuggles to Harry during his hardest days.

Our community has lost a very special guy with a quirky smile, a gleam in his eye and a giggle in his laugh that can’t be duplicated.

The family would like to give thanks to Regency Hospice.  The love, compassion, care and devotion provided by his nurses Alayna, Ronnie, Shawn and Ansleigh was so very appreciated and you guys are the best.   A very special thank you to Melissa, his private caretaker, you were the glue for many weeks that held everyone and everything together!
