Mr. Gary Dale Witteman, 77, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday July 26, 2021. He was married for 55 years to the late Barbara Redd Witteman. Gary was born in Binghamton, New York, where he resided until he entered the United States Army at 18 years old. He remained in Augusta, Georgia after his discharge from the Army and retired from International Paper. He was a long-time member of Lumpkin Road Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir.
Gary was a devoted husband and father, and was a proud Gramps to Lane and Rachel. He was a sweet, soft-spoken man with a great laugh that made you laugh with him. Gary loved golfing, bowling, and found much comfort in his shelter dog, Nemo.
In addition to his wife, Gary was preceded in death by his parents John Witteman and Naomi Ruth Tobey Witteman, his stepmother, Delia Witteman, and his brother, Malcolm Witteman. He is survived by his son, Jesse Daniel Witteman (Melissa Watts); his brother, Charles Witteman; brother-in-law, Carl “Buster” Redd (Navada); sisters-in-law, Joyce Lamb (Chris), Connie Sheridan (John), and Ann Thomas (Perry); and his beloved grandchildren, Lane Witteman and Rachel Witteman; and his former daughter-in-law Tiffany Witteman.
A graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday July 30, 2021 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Don Stone officiating. The family will recieve friends Thursday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Thomas L. King Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
