Elizabeth Rowland Blake, 89, passed away on Monday, November 22, 2021, at University Hospital in Augusta, GA. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, mother-in-law, and aunt "Libby." Elizabeth also had a great love for her late, loyal dogs, ZZ and Ginger. She was the most giving and loving person and always put her family first. Elizabeth was also a hard worker, strong in every sense of the word, and oddly hilarious.
She is survived by her devoted daughter, Samuela "Kaye" McGuire of Augusta, GA. She also leaves behind four grandchildren, Tiffany McGuire of Augusta, GA, Blake Rogers of Marion, IL, Marcus McGuire (spouse Lindsey) of Martinez, GA, and Brittany Elizabeth Rogers Lantry of Marina del Rey, CA; two great-grandchildren, Connor Liam McGuire and Audrey Elizabeth McGuire, both of Martinez, GA; brother, James Rowland (spouse Daphne) of Lincolnton, GA; sister, Mary Jane Clements of Lincolnton, GA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Hewell Britt Blake of Martinez, GA; daughter, Sandra "Sandi" Elizabeth Rogers of Lebanon, IL; parents, Claude Oliver Dewitt Rowland, Sr. and Mary Jane Hall Rowland both of Lincolnton, GA; as well as 11 beloved siblings.
She was born and raised in Lincolnton but lived most of her life in Augusta. Elizabeth worked at Lily Tulip Cup Corporation, Chrysler Motor Dealership, and Fort Gordon. Then, at age 45, she attended Augusta Technical College and Augusta College, fulfilled her lifetime dream of becoming a nurse, and retired from University Hospital with over 25 dedicated years of service mostly in Postpartum. Elizabeth's strong work ethic encouraged both of her daughters to also become nurses.
A memorial service will take place at Bethany United Methodist Church located at 2615 Bethany Church Rd, Lincolnton, GA on Friday, December 3, 2021, at noon. Family and friends are invited to attend.
