Dwight Durell Johnson, Sr.

Dwight Durell Johnson Sr., 70, of Grovetown, Georgia, passed away on June 5, 2023.

He was born to the late Durell and Annice Johnson on August 27, 1952, in Bowdon, Georgia. Dwight married the late Amelia Tiller in 1969, and were married for 55 years. They lived in Evans for thirty years before relocating to Grovetown in 2001.

Dwight is survived by two children, Dwight Durell Johnson Jr. of Augusta, and Marie Doody (Ronnie Moye) of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Preston and Andrew Doody; and three brothers, Dwain (Johnnie) Johnson, Alan (Jamie) Johnson, and Doyce (Lisa) Johnson.

Dwight was a gifted artisan in all areas of construction and building. He used these skills as the Renovations Manager at the Medical College of Georgia where he worked 30 years. He was instrumental in building and opening the Childrens Hospital of Georgia.

Dwight loved target shooting, riding motorcycles with friends, and going on vacations with his family. He especially loved spending time with his grandsons, Preston and Andrew. Dwight was immensely proud of his family.

The family will receive friends at 10:00am on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Road, Martinez, GA 30907. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, June 10, 2023, in the chapel at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, with Pastor Terry Newsome officiating, and burial immediately following at Bellevue Memorial Gardens, 4501 Wrightsboro Road, Grovetown, GA 30813.
