Deborah Lynn Scott, 68, passed away at her home in Augusta, Georgia, on June 8, 2023, after many years battling major health issues.
She was born January 9, 1955, in Booneville, Mississippi, to the late Cebron Rance Scott, Sr. and Christine Strange Scott. Affectionately known as Deborah, Debra, or Deb, she will be remembered as an energetic worker and for her enthusiasm for growing and maintaining plants, flowers, and vegetables. Deb’s love for gardening grew as she worked alongside her mother. Deb also enjoyed spending time at the beach and fishing.
After her graduation from George P. Butler High School in 1973, she worked as a communications dispatcher for many years with Comcast and WOW Cable Services, where she was well liked and respected for her knowledge and hard work ethic.
Deb is survived by her daughter, Leslie Mayo Pounders (JP) of Booneville, Mississippi; her son, Scotty Mayo of New Site, Mississippi; her brother, Cebron Rance Scott, Jr. (Sherry); her sisters, Sandra Whitman (Dan) and Janice Richardson (Earl), all of Evans, Georgia; her grandchildren, Parker Pounders, Sawyer Pounders, and Sadie Pounders of Booneville, Mississippi; and her aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Randall C. Henderson; and her grandparents, Earl Strange and Virtie Glenn Geno Strange and Boliver and Victoria Scott, all of Booneville, Mississippi.
The family is appreciative of the many prayers offered for Deb through the years, and especially grateful to Rick Kovach, her longtime BFF, and to Harry Kovach for their devoted caregiving.
Per her wishes, Deb’s family will celebrate her life in a private ceremony at her favorite place, Hunting Island, South Carolina, in the days to come.
