On Wednesday, August 9, 2023, David Robert Mizer, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at age 78.
Born May 3, 1945, in Oklahoma, to George and Dortha Mizer, David was the oldest of four children. As a young man, David enlisted in the US Army as a cryptographer in 1967, where he served honorably for four years. He spoke fondly of the time he served, specifically his time spent in Okinawa. He then moved to Kayenta, AZ, and always considered that to be “home.” It was during the 11 years he lived there that he met his wife, Deanna, and they had Chris and Andrea. In 1988, the family moved to Wichita, KS, and David eventually attended Radiology Technology school at St. Francis. He worked for Via Christi at the St. Francis campus for 21 years.
David had four great loves in his life: God, his family, dogs, and stories. He strongly believed in the message of salvation by God’s grace through faith and lived his life accordingly. David loved his wife and children deeply and he worked hard to protect, provide, and care for them. He said “I love you” freely and as often as possible, always with great joy and pride. David loved dogs and felt that a life without dogs was not a life worth living. He supported the Kansas Humane Society for many years both through adoption and donations. David loved stories; whether in books, television, movies, or music, and if there was a story being told, he wanted to hear it.
David passed away at home surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister, Karen; and his brother, Michael. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Deanna; his son, Christopher (daughter-in-law Venesha); his daughter, Andrea (son-in-law Josh); and his ten grandchildren, David, Jamari, John, Aliya, Emily, Addelyn, Brandon, Elias, Samantha, and Darius.
The family will hold an informal, private remembrance. Those wishing to honor his memory should make a donation to the Kansas Humane Society.
