Charles “Chuck” William Riggin, Jr., a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, passed away peacefully at home in Hephzibah, Georgia on Wednesday, November 3, 2021. Chuck is survived by his wife of 57 years, Mary Elizabeth Kerns Riggin. He is survived by two children: Toni M. Riggin Bucci (spouse Joe Bucci) of Zebulon, NC and Christopher C. Riggin (spouse Heather Riggin) of Martinez, GA. He also leaves behind three grandchildren: Gabriella M. Bucci, Dominick J. Bucci and Vincent G. Bucci, as well as his sister Karen L. Timmons (spouse Harvey Timmons) of Salisbury, MD and his brother Timothy B. Riggin of Providence, RI. Chuck is preceded in death by his parents Charles W. Riggin, Sr. and India J. Pruitt both of Salisbury, MD.
Chuck spent 23 years in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. After retiring from the military, he worked for the Civil Service for the US Government until he retired in 2001. Chuck was raised as a Master Mason in Bad Aibling, Germany. He was a Scottish Rite 32nd degree Mason and became a Shriner while stationed in Naples, Italy. He was a member of the Alee Shrine Center and Legion of Honor, Savannah, Georgia and of the Yaarab Shrine Center and Legion of Honor, Atlanta, Georgia. Chuck won Southeastern Shriner Association Legion of Honor Shriner of the year on two different occasions based on his dedication to Children’s Hospitals.
Chuck was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid dog lover, especially for his devoted dog Mitzie. He was an amazing storyteller and had a great sense of humor. Chuck volunteered as a Masonic Representative at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center in Augusta for several years. His charitable contributions, coupled with the deep love for his friends and family, helped sustain him even during his battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
A Memorial Service will take place at the Augusta Scottish Rite Center, 2553 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia on Saturday, November 20 at 1:00pm. Family and friends are invited to attend.
