Cavin Virgil McElroy, 75, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, December 30, 2021, at his home.
He leaves behind his son and daughter-in-law, John M. McElroy II and Michelle; his grandchildren, Baker and Mackenzie; as well as two loving sisters, Cleyta Andrews (Warren) and Karen Edwards (Mike).
Born in Ashboro, North Carolina to John M. McElroy and Lillian Bradley McElroy, Cavin lived in and around that area until his family established roots in Augusta. Cavin was a 1965 graduate of Butler High School. After graduating High School, he joined the Marine Corps where he was stationed at Camp LeJeune, but due to his father's death an Honorable Discharge due to hardship forced Cavin out of the service. Cavin returned to Augusta to take over the family business, take care of his family, and start one of his own. Several years passed and Cavin then felt the calling to teach the word of the Lord and went to Tennessee Temple University, where he graduated a year early and began to preach around the Southeast. Although he continued to practice his beliefs and teachings, he and his family eventually returned to Augusta where he went into sales from which he retired.
Once retired, this left him time to pursue his passion for golf, being a member of Green Meadows Golf Course until they closed then moving to Applewood. He would play multiple times per week but most enjoyed his rounds with Les, his best friend of more than 35 years.
Cavin was always reading, watching, learning something new to add to his repertoire to be able to carry on a conversation about anything with anyone. He was a self taught painter that loved putting brush to canvas and also taught himself to work with wood, making some of the most beautiful crosses.
Cavin was definitely one of a kind, such a character that if you met him you never forgot him, one way or the other.
I hope with all my heart you can now rest easy my friend.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
