Carol Newberry Obituary

Carolyn Dianne Newberry (75) of Martinez, Georgia (formerly of Cairo, GA) entered into rest on May 17th 2021. Carolyn was the 15th of 16 children. She was born in Thomasville, Georgia to Alton Everett Newberry and Hattie Lenora Butler Newberry on June 6, 1945. She lived in many different states however she always referred to Cairo, GA as her home. She had a gift for cleaning and organization. For many years she chose cleaning as her occupation. She not only helped other people keep their homes tidy but she developed many lasting relationships with the people who hired her.

Carolyn loved all things Native American, Redbirds and watching old Westerns. In recent years she never missed her “Dawgs” play football. She was always dressed for the occasion in her late daughter Kay’s GA Bulldog Scrubs. She truly enjoyed her time spent with her great grandchildren Carter and Henley. She was always quick with an invitation to take a whirl with her in her Jazzy chair. Anyone who knew her knew she had a beautiful thick head of hair. Just recently she requested for her pony tail to be donated to the Locks of Love Foundation.

Carolyn is survived by her sister Sarah Jean Newberry (Thomasville, GA). Also, her children Alton Paul Burns (Coolidge, GA) Sherri D Lockhart (Moultrie, GA) Kimberly A Bloodsworth (Grovetown, GA) Brenda F Dickerson (Rincon, GA) and Billy Fuller (Augusta, GA). Her grandchildren include Misty Fain (Foley, AL) Brandy C Burns (Tallahassee, FL) Nicole Burns (Thomasville, GA) Jesse J Burns (Atlanta, GA) Brittany L Warner (Grovetown, GA) Tabitha R Rexrode (Greenville, SC) Garrett T Reid (Grovetown, GA) Morgan E Reid (Grovetown, GA) Allison Sullivan (Evans, GA) Elizabeth Edmunds (Miami, FL) and Danny R Prince (Moultrie, GA). She also had 5 great grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews that she loved, especially Mark A Green (Baxley, GA) and Jody L Green (Cairo, GA).

Carolyn is preceded in death by 14 dear siblings including her sister and best friend Jacquelyn L Green (Cairo, GA) and her beloved children James G Burns (Thomasville, GA) Melinda Kay Rexrode (Lexington, SC) and Glen S Fuller (Augusta, GA). Her grandchild and friend Wendy E Prince and Rosie Burns(Coolidge, GA).

Carolyn truly missed her children and siblings she lost in death but her firm belief was that she would see them once again in Paradise on earth. She truly believed in the words of Jesus found at John 5:28,29. It says “the hour is coming when all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out”.

The family would like to thank the people who truly helped our Mother in the past year: Janet, Beth and Traci your friendship meant the world to Mom. Also, her nurses Heather and Kammie. The medical doctors that made her life more bearable: Dr. McKaskey, Dr. McNear, Dr. Joseph Carmel, Dr. Fitzgerald and Dr. Logan. We are forever grateful for the doctors and nurses at Doctor’s Hospital who fought to keep her alive: Dr. Keely and Dr. Hogan. Her nurses Gaby, Kenneth, Stacy, Robbie, Kyle Matthews from Raspatory and so many more. Thank you from bottom of our hearts!

Arrangements have been made for a private family gathering at a later date.
