Broadus Joel “BJ” Vinson, of Grovetown, GA, a beloved son, husband, father, and pawpaw passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 29th, 2020. BJ was born on June 24th, 1929 in Westminster, South Carolina to Sally and Joel Vinson. At the tender age of 17 he joined the United States Army where he served two tours in the Korean War and was a Military Police officer. After retiring from the United States Army as a Master Sargeant, he dedicated his life and career to law enforcement. BJ was a deputy for the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department and went on to become Chief of Police in Grovetown, GA and later in Graysville, TN. BJ also served in the Columbia County City Council and was a devoted Atlanta Braves fan. Aside from all his career endeavors, he would often say his family was his biggest success in life. He enjoyed attending his youngest daughter’s softball games and would often attempt to “coach” the team from the sidelines. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Jimmie Ruth Vinson, 12 living children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A special thank you to all the family, friends, and the team of professionals from PruittHealth Hospice for their loving care and support during his final days. He truly felt loved and comforted.
