Betty Howard Obituary

Betty R. Howard passed away peacefully on July 7, at her home in Christiana Tennessee.  Betty was born March 17, 1939 in Martinez, Ga, and was a resident of the Martinez/Evans area until 1977. She graduated from Evans High School as salutatorian in 1956, and attended business school in Augusta. She worked almost 40 years as a civil servant with the Department of Defense beginning her career at Ft. Gordon. Betty relocated with her family to North Florida where she began working with hazardous materials.  The majority of her career was spent as a hazardous waste specialist, dealing with the proper storage and shipment of hazardous materials.  She spent 7 years stationed in Guantanamo Bay,  Cuba, overseeing the cleanup of materials that had been improperly handled.  Her contribution to this cleanup effort was a fulfilling accomplishment for her.  After retiring Betty moved back to Evans to help care for her mom, before moving to Tennessee to live with her daughter.  She enjoyed spending time outside, either on the beach gathering shells, hanging out at the river with family, or tending to her plants, trees, and flowers.

Betty is survived by her 5 children, Judy Pooler, Randall Howard, Michael Howard, Donna Parker (Steve), and Jennifer Chambers (James); 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by 2 sisters, 1 brother, and countless nieces and nephews.  Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Alexander Turner (A.T.) Richardson and Patti Irene Lewis Richardson, her daughter, Cindy Lee Howard,  sister Edna Faye Richardson Shead, and great-granddaughter Kinsley Grace Coker.

Betty was a kind and patient soul, and will be forever missed. Thomas L. King Funeral Home and Cremation Service is in charge of arrangements.
