A.R. "Ted" Lane Obituary

Mr. Arthur Robert "Ted" Lane, Jr., 90, entered into rest on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Piedmont Augusta Hospital. Mr. Lane was the beloved husband of the late Mrs. Ruby Inglett Lane, and the son of the late Mr. Arthur Robert Lane, Sr. and Mrs. Hester Williams Lane. Born in Danville, Virginia, he lived most of his life in the Augusta area.  He attended Richmond Academy prior to joining the United States Army during the Korean conflict. After an Honorable Discharge, Mr. Lane worked at BellSouth as a cable splicer until he retired 35 years later. During his employment, he was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and served as a Communication Workers of America Union President. After retirement, he continued to work in the telecommunications industry by opening his own business, Lane Telephone Sales and Service, which he ran until 2006. Mr. Lane was an active member of his community.  He served 18 years as a Columbia County Commissioner and was voted Chairman of the Board of Commissioners in 1983 and 1988. He was a founding member of the Martinez Merchant's Association and a Lifetime Director of the Merchant's Association of Columbia County. He played a pivotal role in overseeing the Martinez-Evans Christmas Parade and Columbia County Fair and was elected Fairman of the Year in 2015. Mr. Lane enjoyed playing baseball and golf. In his younger years, he played baseball for a city league in Augusta and later enjoyed coaching Little League baseball. Combining his love of golf and love of community, he worked with the Merchant's Association to organize a golf tournament, now known as the Mrs. Ruby Lane/Terry Davis Memorial Scholarship Golf Tournament, in order to provide scholarship opportunities to local high school graduates.

Mr. Lane is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Vicki Lanette Brown (Eddie) of Evans; granddaughter, Jennifer Brown McGahee; and two great-granddaughters, Camdyn and Brynleigh McGahee of Woodstock; one sister, Edith Lane Vicks of Danville, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends that were like family.

A memorial service will be held at 7:00pm on Thursday, June 16th, 2022, in the Chapel at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Road, Martinez, GA 30907. The family will receive friends two hours prior to service time. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Merchant's Association of Columbia County's Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 204455, Martinez, GA 30917, to provide scholarships to local high school graduates.
