Yvonne
Overton
Jun 25, 1946 — Aug 26, 2026
Yvonne Hobbs Overton, 80, of Waynesboro, Georgia, and a longtime resident of Augusta, Georgia, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on August 26, 2026.
Yvonne was born on June 25, 1946, to Morgan S. Hobbs and Minnie Lee Hobbs. She spent most of her life in Augusta before later making her home in Waynesboro. She shared 65 years of marriage with her husband, Clarence Overton, building a lifetime together filled with faith, family, and memories.
Above all else, Yvonne loved Jesus. Her faith was not simply something she spoke about; it was woven into the way she lived. She loved going to church, treasured time spent reading her Bible, and faithfully prayed for countless people throughout her life. Her well-worn Bible, with its pages read again and again, was a reflection of a faith that was lived every day.
She was an encourager and a giver. If Yvonne saw someone she could help, she gave what she could and expected nothing in return. She was remarkably content with the simple blessings of life and had a way of making other people feel comfortable and welcome.
Yvonne never met a stranger. She could strike up a conversation with almost anyone, but just as importantly, she knew how to listen. Those who knew her will remember her warmth, her generous heart, and especially her laughter. She loved to laugh, and her joyful spirit made people feel at home in her presence.
She found happiness in simple things. Yvonne loved to read and was an amazing cook who spent many years feeding the people she loved. She treasured spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved butterflies, angels, and the beach.
Yvonne never sought the spotlight. She was happiest quietly loving and caring for the people around her. Much of what she did happened behind the scenes; praying, encouraging, cooking, giving, helping, and making sure the people she loved were cared for. She often put herself last and never needed recognition for the many ways she served others. Yet her quiet presence was a steady thread running through her family, holding people together in ways they may only fully understand now that she is gone.
The qualities that defined Yvonne were not simply memories from the final years of her life. They were who she had always been. Through the years, she remained steadfast in the things that mattered most, her love for Jesus, her devotion to family, her generous spirit, her contentment, and her concern for others.
Yvonne is survived by her husband of 65 years, Clarence Overton; her daughter, Teresa Overton; her son, Bud Overton; her grandchildren, Lara (Brent), Clint, Kim, and Trevor; and her great-grandchildren, Madison, Dawson, Audrey, Kylie, Bella, Addie, and Sawyer.
She is also survived by her mother, Minnie Lee Hobbs; her sisters, Susie (Charlie), Vickie (Archie), Kathy (Don), and Sharlene (James); and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends. For a woman who never met a stranger, Yvonne’s circle of family and friends extended far beyond the names that could ever be listed here.
She was preceded in death by her father, Morgan S. Hobbs; her son, Bill James Overton; her daughter, Tina Renea Overton; and her brother-in-law, Charlie.
In keeping with Yvonne’s wishes and the quiet, humble way she lived her life, her family will honor her with a simple graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta, Georgia 30906.
Following the graveside service, family and friends are invited to gather at Hargrove’s Cabin at 3588 Hancock Landing Road for a time of fellowship, sharing memories, and celebrating Yvonne’s life.
Arrangements are being handled by Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Road, Martinez, Georgia 30907.
Although her family grieves the loss of a woman they loved beyond measure, they find comfort in the faith that sustained Yvonne throughout her life and in the promise that she is now in the presence of the Savior she loved.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”
2 Timothy 4:7 KJV
Yvonne loved God. She loved her family. She never met a stranger. She gave generously, prayed faithfully, encouraged others, laughed often, and lived her faith.
And that is a beautiful life to be remembered for...
