Reeves, Sr.
MARTINEZ, Ga. - Mr. William (Bill) D. Reeves, Sr., MSG, US Army Ret., entered into rest on Friday, October 21, 2016, at his residence with his loving family beside him. Bill was born June 10, 1930, in Battle Creek, MI, to the late William and Inez Reeves. His only sibling, Winifred, also preceded him in death. His Army career spanned 26 years. He was stationed at Schofield Barracks, HI, and served a tour with the 5th Regimental Combat Team in the early years of the Korean War, and later, four tours in Vietnam. Besides his overseas duty, Schofield Barracks, HI, FT Shafter, HI, and FT Gordon, GA, were his other duty stations. While in Hawaii, he was a member of the USARPAC Softball Team and also a lifeguard at FT DeRussy Beach. At FT Gordon, he managed/coached Little League baseball teams. He earned; Good Conduct Mdl (5th Awd), United Nations Svc Mdl, Motor Veh Badge, Purple Heart,Combat Infantrymans Badge, Korean Svc Mdl, National Defense Svc MdJ W/OLC, Vietnam Svc Mdl, Vietnam Campaign Mdl W/60 Dev, Bronze Star Mdl, Anny Commendation Mdl, Sharpshooter Badge W/Rifle Bar, Six(6) Overseas Service Bars. He was a Life Member of American Legion Jack C. Fortune, Post 205 (with 50+ years of continuous membership) and affectionately known as "Uncle Bill", past member VFW Post 649, member of LaSociete des Quarante Hommes et HuitChevaux 40&8. In addition to his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Jeanette, he is survived by sons Billy Reeves (Joann), Steve Reeves, Michael Reeves, David Reeves, daughters Kimberly Young (John), Jana Reeves; grandchildren who called him "Papa"; Trey Reeves, Britney Thompson (Stuart), Dylan Reeves, Helene Reeves, SGT Sean Young (Krystal), Lacy Nielson (Ian); great grandchildren, Andrew and Aaron Reeves, Caden and Conner Young; brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Trinity Hospice for their care of Bill and support for the family. A private service will be held at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior.
