Obituary

William Max (Bill) Pelkey Jr. passed away at his residence on January 29, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born July 18, 1928 in East Millinocket, Maine. He is the son of the late William Max Pelkey and Lydia Pelkey. He was preceded in death by his brother Jack Pelkey, and sisters, Martha Paoletti, Claudene McLaughlin and Polly Nelson. William is survived by his devoted wife, Bess Pelkey, of 44 years. In addition to his wife he leaves a daughter, Deborah Pelkey (Jacksonville, FL), a son Dean Pelkey (Martinez, Ga). Stepsons: Timothy Norris (Frankfort, KY), Terry Norris (Martinez, Ga).  A very special daughter-in-law Sherri Norris. He also leaves behind his granddaughter and shining star Sarah Norris and many other family members including a host of neices, nephews, and a sister-in-law, Linda Pelkey. Bill was a Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. Afterwards he started his long time career in the food industry. He worked for several successful companies and received many awards during his time. He then bought and managed two restaurants in Athens, Ga. After retiring, Bill and his wife Bess fulfilled a lifelong dream and traveled the United States, Mexico, and Canada for 18 years in their motor home. He loved the beauty of the country and enjoyed sharing his stories of his travels he called it "God's Country". One of his main interest was becoming a Mason and a Shriner. He was a member of the Horeb Lodge in Maine, Scottish Rite in Augusta, Ga. and the Alee Temple in Savanah Ga. He was a past president of the Augusta Shrine Club. A graveside service will be held at Bellevue memorial on Thursday at 1:00 PM Feb. 4, 2021 with Masonic Rites, Reverend Michael Evans and Hospice Chaplin Rosco Perry officiating. Thomas King Funeral home will be in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations can be made to Shiners Hospitals or Saint Jude's.
