Wayne Thomas Strickland

Wayne Thomas Strickland, 66, of Augusta, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2025, after a lengthy illness.

Born on May 4, 1959, in Jamaica, Queens, New York, Wayne was raised in a loving Christian home by his adoptive parents, Bertha Bowie and William Peyton, who laid the foundation for a generous, faith-filled life. His faith shined from within, and those who knew him loved his gentle demeanor, kind heart, and calm spirit.

Wayne moved to Augusta, Georgia, in 2009, where he met the love of his life, Renee Joyner. They were married on October 29, 2011, and shared a devoted and loving marriage. Wayne worked at The Salvation Army Center of Hope as a Night Intake Manager, where he treated everyone with dignity and compassion.

In 2015, Wayne and Renee moved to Tahoka, Texas, where he worked in elementary school maintenance for Tahoka ISD and was dearly loved by the children. They returned to Augusta in 2022.

Wayne never met a stranger, loved making new friends, and never spoke an unkind word of others. He cherished his family-especially his grandchildren-took pride in watching his grandsons play football, and found peace in quiet moments watching Gunsmoke, Yellowstone, and Christian Sermons.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bertha Bowie, and William Peyton.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife, Renee Strickland; stepsons, Dean Vinson (Melissa) and Shane Vinson (Jennifer); grandchildren, Trinity Hamilton, Juwan Hamilton, and Malik Hamilton; four great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Charles Joyner (Vicki); cousins, James and Barbara Lamb; aunt, Schena Davis; his beloved fur baby, Olivia; and dear friends, Amanda and Byron Brown.

Wayne Thomas Strickland will be remembered for his gentle spirit, strong faith, and the love he shared so freely with others.

A memorial service is pending.
