MSG (Ret) Wayne Howard Springer, age 88, beloved husband of Amalia Eich Springer, entered into rest Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center. Mr. Springer was born in Pittsburgh, PA to the late Howard and Sadie Welch Springer. Mr. Springer enjoyed hunting, fishing, and watching the Atlanta Braves and the UFC. He had served in the Army for over 20 years serving a year in Korea and also a tour in Vietnam. Mr. Springer earned the Army Commendation Medal, the Good Conduct Medal 6th Award, the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two Campaign Stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal and Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Palm.
Following his military service, Mr. Springer then was employed by the Civil Service. The family wishes to extended a special thanks to care givers Audrey Robinson, Sheila Jones, Keisha Jones, Eddie Jones, and the VA Medical Staff. Mr. Springer was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at the Bellevue Memorial Chapel with Chaplin Dusty Womack officiating. Full military honors will be observed.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Springer is also survived by a son, Steven Springer of Martinez, GA; 2 Daughters, Annette Shipp (Ken) of Martinez, GA and Diann Belk (Charles) of Graniteville, SC; 5 grandchildren, Kimberly (Brandon), Brittany, Ryan (Laura Ann), Hannah, and Hunter; and 2 great granddaughters, Carley and Evelynn.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Bellevue Memorial Chapel.
