Walter Ulmer Schmidt, 77, entered into rest on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.

Walter was born October 17, 1946 to the late Mary Ulmer Schmidt and Dr. Henry Louis Schmidt in Augusta, Georgia. Walter graduated from the Academy of Richmond County before attending North Georgia College in Dahlonega, the University of Georgia in Athens, and Augusta College where he graduated in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration. After working at Castleberry's and the Medical College of Georgia bookstore, Walter dove into the business he loved, gunsmithing! He operated Schmidt's Gun Repair in Augusta on Wrightsboro Road before moving his business to Aiken, SC, and later returning to Augusta in a new location on Wrightsboro Road.

Walter leaves behind his wife of fifty-three years, Becky Adams Schmidt; a son, Christian Schmidt and his wife Trina; a brother, Henry Schmidt and his wife Christina of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Breezy Hill Baptist Church, 612 Ascauga Lake Rd #3401, Graniteville, SC 29829. The family will receive friends from 10:15AM until the time of service at the church.
