Obituary

Velma Johnson (nee Hood), affectionately called Dolly by family and friends, entered into rest on August 10, 2024, at her daughter's residence, in Martinez, Georgia.

Born November 16, 1937, in Phoenix, Arizona, she spent much of her life living in St. Clair Shores, Michigan before moving to Martinez, Georgia for the last year and a half of her life. Dolly will be remembered for being the life of the party. Her favorite response when asked how she was doing was "Oh, fat and sassy as ever."

She was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church for the entirety of her time in  Michigan and would often be seen walking across the street from her house to volunteer at any event. After moving to Georgia, she faithful attended Christ the King Lutheran Church. She will be greatly missed by her family and the many friends she has made throughout her long life.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Lyle and Ralph Hood; daughter, Mary Reeder; and granddaughter, Amber Shank. She is survived by her son, Steve Johnson; daughter, Linda Luoma (Keith); son-in-law, Dennis Reeder; grandchildren, Amanda Rubin (Jason), Natalie Reeder (Jeff Norris), Lauren Luoma, Rachel Luoma (Devin Schmidt), Stephanie Spolum (Troy), and Emily Johnson; and great-grandchildren, Danielle Rubin and Drake and Kendall Spolum.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 4232 Evans to Locks Road, Evans GA 30809. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to service time. A light meal will follow in the fellowship hall. Her cremated remains will be brought back to Arizona for scattering privately at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in her honor to either Christ the King Lutheran Church in Evans, Georgia ( christthekingevans.org ) or Redeemer Lutheran Church in St. Clair Shores, Michigan (phone 586-294-0640).
