With profound sadness and hearts full of love, we announce the passing of Vanessa Ifunanya Udom, affectionately known as Ify or Nessa, who was born on September 22, 1980, and departed this life on October 6, 2026, at the age of 46. Vanessa was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, and friend whose presence brought warmth, love, and joy to those fortunate enough to know her.

Vanessa was born in Winston Salem, NC to Albert and Rita Udom. She was raised in Augusta, Ga, where she spent her early years surrounded by her siblings and friends that turned family. During her childhood, Vanessa was known for her personality, smile and of course just how brilliant she was. She never met a stranger and brought light and love to every person she touched.

Vanessa went on to build a fulfilling career as an MSN, RN (Master of Science and Nursing, Registered Nurse), for over 15 years. The same love, care, and attention she shared with her loved ones was the way she showed up to every interaction at work. She held a profound appreciation of education and commitment to lifelong learning, intellectual growth, and excellence in anything she undertook. She loved music, the fine arts, and cooking/baking for others in her community. She also continuously expressed herself through dance and fitness, her spirituality, as well as crafts and painting. She was also an avid reader with a beautifully whimsical imagination. Through her many passions, Vanessa embraced life with grace, curiosity, creativity, and unwavering appreciation for the beauty in all things.

Vanessa is survived by her parents, Dr. Albert O. Udom and Dr. Rita Nzeribe Udom. She is also survived by her beloved children Brie-Chanel Bell, Brice-Amari Glenn, Kai-Dalton Jones, Seth Williams, Jakobi Jones, as well as, her siblings Raina-Marie Udom, Amy-Alexis Antine, Sasha-Noelle Udom, Reuben Faloughi, Karlton Lowe, and Teyana “Coco” David. Also, a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were touched by her love, kindness, and presence.

A celebration of life will be held on October 17, 2026, at New Life Worship Center, 3550 Morgan Road, Hephzibah, GA 30815. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., and the service will begin promptly at 2:00 p.m. A repass will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the Udom family kindly requests that donations be made in Vanessa’s memory. All contributions will go toward establishing a trust for Kai-Dalton’s future.
