IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stuart
Reid
September 10, 1945 – June 8, 2024
Stuart Reid, 78 of Salisbury, passed away on June 8, 2024 in Augusta, GA.
Born September 10, 1945 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, he was the son of the late Norman Reid and Elizabeth (Barrett) Ellison.
Stuart was raised by his grandparents, John and Mary Reid. After completing his apprenticeship in engineering, he went to work in the Merchant Marine as a ship's engineer. It was around that time that he met Susan Ross, the love of his life. Stuart married Susan on June 8th, 1968 and started a family in the UK.
Stuart's sense of adventure led him to take a job in East Africa for several years. Always the adventurer, Stuart would then go on to accept work in Luray, VA. Over the years, the family moved subsequently to West Virginia and then Pennsylvania. No matter where the family settled, he always made it a loving home. Stuart and Susan finally retired in Salisbury, MD where they continued to travel and explore the country together.
Our dad always enjoyed a good song and story. He was quick to entertain you with both and often in the company of friends and family. He also collected antiques and books, both of which would come with his entertaining tales or interesting back-stories. Additionally, when he finally got his sailboat, the Gan Canny, he spent many hours sailing the Nanticoke River, often with good friends or Susan by his side.
He will be remembered as a generous, thoughtful and a kind man with a passion for all the world had to offer.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Reid of Salisbury. Survivors include two children, Karen Reid of Augusta, GA, and Simon Reid and his partner Charles Martin of Rolling Meadows, IL; two grandchildren, Nicole Sautman and her partner, Mary Grace, and Emma Sautman; a sister, Linda Mussett and her husband Colin Mussett; and loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends both in the US and the UK.
