Mrs. Sonya Newman Reeves gained her heavenly reward on June 7, 2026. 

Sonya was a lifelong Augusta area resident and was a homemaker who enjoyed being a mom, grandmother and great grandmother, affectionately known as Mema. She was a devout Southern Baptist Christian. She enjoyed her morning coffee, loved her cats, one of which enjoyed coffee with her, watching her classic TV shows, and tending to her flowers. Sewing was another enjoyment of hers when she was able and she even made clothes and blankets for her grandchildren. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother who will be deeply missed. 

She is preceded in death by her parents Richard and Catherine Newman, and her daughter, Cathy Hart. 

Survivors include her husband, Ira Reeves; son, Rick Reeves (Ann); brother, Lansing Newman (Marie); 6 grandchildren, Ashley Castle (Taylor), Mark Reeves, Lindsey Germain (JD), Ryder Hart (Alexis), Shelbey Hart, and Andrew Butler (Linda); and many great grandchildren and other family members. 

Funeral Services will be held June 17th, 2026, 1:00 PM, at Fleming Baptist Church with Dr. Adam Hammond officiating. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
