Obituary

Sandra Ruth Lonergan Burnett passed peacefully from this life on February 15, 2026, at the age of 81. Her life was defined not by circumstance, but by devotion—steadfast to her husband, unwavering love towards her children, and unending faithfulness to her God.

On September 4, 1971, Sandra dedicated her life to Jehovah God and was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her faith shaped her conscience, guided her choices, and sustained her through both joys and sorrows. She found comfort in the assurance that Jehovah sees the heart and values sincere effort and loving intention. That conviction marked the conviction with which she lived.

Sandra shared 63 devoted years of marriage with her beloved husband, Roy “Joe” Burnett, whom she married in 1962. Their union reflected loyalty, endurance, and deep mutual care. Together, they built a home grounded in commitment and affection.

Above all else, Sandra’s life’s work was her family. Her children were her world, and she poured herself into their lives with tireless devotion. Fiercely loyal and boundless in affection, she met life’s problems with the same unwavering response: love. It was often said that no one could out-love Mom—and those who knew her understood this not as sentiment, but as truth proven daily in word and deed.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Harriet Lonergan; her infant sons, Randall and Terrell; and her daughter, Sonya Burnett. Also, a dear sister, Anna Carter and four brothers, George, John, Billy and Ray Lonergan.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Roy “Joe” Burnett; her children, Rhonda (Tim) Street of Thomson, Georgia; Stefanie (Ivan) Bryson of Tuckasegee, North Carolina; Tracy (Mike) Fowler of Thomson, Georgia; Cody (Heather) Street of Jacksonville, Florida; and Jordan Burnett of Grovetown, Georgia; as well as 15 cherished grandchildren—two of whom she and Joe lovingly raised—and 8 great-grandchildren who carry forward her legacy of family devotion. Also, a dear sister Gail (Joe) Mallard and a brother, James Lonergan.

To define a good wife, mother, and person is to look beyond perfection to faithfulness—beyond flawlessness to intention. By that measure, Sandra’s life stands as a quiet testament. She loved without reserve, gave without calculation, and remained steadfast in loyalty to those entrusted to her care. Jehovah, who reads the heart and remembers love expressed in action, knows the full measure of her goodness. As the Scriptures remind us: “If I have all the faith so as to move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.” —1 Corinthians 13:2.
