Our Heavenly Father took Ruth to be in His kingdom February 28, 2023, after a hard, yet quick, battle with cancer. To know Ruth was to understand that you were always in her world. She had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off her back and always had a seat at her table for anyone who needed a meal. A lover and a fighter all in one. She did everything her way, even up to her last breath. A true poet and free spirit. Her passion for animals was unmatched as was her love for her family and friends.

Ruth is preceded in death by her father, George Robert Dawson; and her mother, Mary Ann Dawson. She is survived by an only son, Daniel Dawson; sisters, Pamela Pate (Florida), and Catherine Mallon (Mike-North Carolina); aunt, Carolyn Wheelhouse (Don-Florida); nieces, Marybeth Kilroy Knapp (Derek, Vermont), Susie Hagins, and Betty Johnson (Bob); nephews, Bruce James Kilroy (Kim-Florida), Damien Taitague, Devin Taitague, and David Brunson (Amy); cousins, Donna Sue Hastings, Carol Hastings, and Martin; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

A special thanks to her friend Tonia Clark, who sat by her side for many days and nights during her prolonged hospitalization. As per Ruth's wishes, there will be no funeral. An intimate family celebration of her life will be planned for the future. Donations may be made in Ruth's name to either the American Cancer Society or to the Augusta Humane Society.
