Obituary

It's with a heavy heart that we share that Robin Tomlin Huckabee left this world for greener pastures on August 20, 2024. Writing an obituary is a heartbreakingly dull task. Since Robin was anything but dull, instead we would like you to know, in no particular order, who was Robin.

She had the most contagious smile and the most beautiful crystal blue eyes that she became known for. She was a believer, a romantic, and had music in her soul.  She loved to laugh, dance, and sing. She could frequently be found entertaining us dancing and singing her favorite southern Rock songs. In her youth she was proudly in a girl band called the Rockin' Doves.

She was incredibly smart, and she poured herself wholeheartedly into every job she had – even while dreaming of becoming a truck driver and traveling with her best friend Fran. Her list of professional achievements is long and impressive, but she was proud of nothing more than she was of her daughter Jamie, her son Ryan, and her granddaughter Claire. It's beautiful to see all of her best qualities shining through each of them. She was fiercely independent and had a strong work ethic and instilled those same traits into her children, too.

She loved fiercely and unconditionally. The second oldest of 6 children, she was a doting sister to all of her siblings with whom shared so many wonderful childhood experiences that she cherished until the day she left us. She was never happier than she was when we were all gathered so we could talk and eat together and she could boss everyone around, show off her beautiful children, and get into shenanigans with the guys.

She was sometimes stubborn to a fault, but she was also perseverant. She loved to fish and crab, she loved to cook, and if you ever had the honor of trying her lasagna or grit casserole, you'll never forget it. If you ever had the misfortune of trying her cuban chicken or staple oyster dressing at Thanksgiving, you'd never forget that either. Ha!

She had her heart broken, she hated her disease, and she had fabulous style. She took pride in working in her yard, and her favorite way to wind down was with a glass of wine and Nick at Night or a Lifetime movie. She taught Sunday school and had picnics in the backyard while soaking in baby Jamie. She thought her son Ryan was the most handsome and intelligent sidekick and loved showing him off to friends and family.

She was so lucky to finally find a safe, unconditional romantic love in her wonderful husband Bob, who she unfortunately lost in 2011.She loved to watch cooking shows and make lists of the recipes they inspired her to make. She was like a second Mom to many of Jamie's friend growing up and even welcomed several of them to live in her home. Toward the end of her life, she dreamed of working with children. She drove like a demon with its tail on fire, she did things for love, she did things for fun, she had regrets, and she had triumphs.

She had loyal friends, ex-husbands, and a loving, romantic heart that persevered despite the challenges she faced. She was her father's daughter, and she had his same charisma and silly sense of humor. She called the women she loved the most "heifer", and liked to go "Hookey Pookin" her made up name for just riding around, window shopping, and hanging out with the people she loved. She was loved dearly by her mom and inherited her indomitable spirit.

Her time here on earth was too short, but we are luckier for having known her. I have no doubt she is finally at peace now, dancing with our dad, making silly jokes with our sister, rejoicing in the warm embrace of her husband, cracking  jokes with Lynn, and doting on Aunt Jenny, Joe Mama, Grandma Georgiana, Uncle Richard, and all the others that have preceded us to heaven.

With love from the Tomlin family. See you there!
