Richard Edward Poteet Sr., 81, of Martinez, passed away on April 19, 2025.
Richard was a lifelong area native and a Baptist by faith. He was a 1959 Graduate of Richmond Academy. After graduation he served his country in the US Airforce for 4 years on Fire and Rescue. After serving in the Airforce, he worked for Richmond County Engineering. He retired from the construction business working for John R. Cook Construction, Peter Mink construction, and Clausen Concrete before starting his own business for over 40 years. Richard was a hard worker and had a heart of gold, always making sure all of his workers were cared for as if they were his own family. When not working he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid GA Bulldog fan never missing a game and enjoyed watching the Braves. He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James T. Poteet Sr. and Myrtle Peebles Poteet, and his siblings, James T. Poteet Jr., William H. "Bill" Poteet, Michael J. Poteet, and Carol P. Cain.
Survivors include his son Richard Poteet Jr.(Tonya); his fiancé, Betty Anderson; his sister, Delores P. Mock; his grandson, Richard Poteet III, longtime friends, George Sperry and Ronnie Butler, as well many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Thomas L. King Funeral home from 12:00 until 1:30 PM. A graveside service will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at Pierce Memorial Cemetery, 1438 Jackson Rd. Augusta GA 30909. Pallbearers will be Ralph Cowart, Wade Faglier, Blake Nobles, Josh Mock, Charles Jones, and Richard Poteet III.
