Richard Keith Newsome Sr. passed away on February 6, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion to family. He was a man whose greatest pride and joy was the family he built. He was also a retired commercial truck driver, and a part of the CSRA Santas for which he was commonly known as “Santa Richard.” He additionally spent several years coaching various sports recreationally for his community.

Richard was the beloved husband of Katherine Newsome, his wife of 48 years, who lovingly called him “bae.” Together they created a life rooted in strength and unconditional love.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his children and their spouses: Richard Newsome Jr. and Shauna Newsome, Sabrina Anderson and A’Daryl Anderson. He was a proud grandfather to: Kallie Newsome (Peyton), Kortney Newsome (Chris), Kendall Newsome (Jaired), Damian Anderson (Alexis), Alayna Silman (Aidan), Cameron Anderson (Calise), Ezra Anderson, Braylee Anderson, and Jayden Battle. He was also blessed with one great-grandson, Greyson Silman, who brought him immense joy.

Richard is also survived by his brothers, Roy Newsome (Carolyn) and David Youngblood, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins who affectionately knew him as “Bubba"; his brother and sister in-laws: John Melanaphy, Brenda Carr, Barbara Messer, and Michael Hall (LeAnn).

Richard is preceded in death by his parents Titus Newsome and Rebecca Youngblood, as well as his brothers Ronald Newsome, Jimmy Newsome, Bobby Newsome, Charles “Ricky” Newsome, and Michael Newsome. Richard is also preceded in death by his in-laws Gary Carr, Frank Messer, and nephew Joshua Messer.

Richard had a big heart and a gentle soul. He was always cracking jokes. He loved western and karate movies, playing softball, Elvis Presley, and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs. He had quite the sweet tooth and never turned down a sweet treat. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, who meant everything to him. By his side was also his beloved dog, Khloe, who is truly part of the family. He was a firm believer in the Lord and a member of Living Waters Church.

Richard’s memory will live on in the legacy he built alongside his soulmate, Katherine Newsome. He will forever be missed and always remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Santa Richard’s bag gets filled for Toys for Tots.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Living Waters Full Gospel Church, 1319 Community Park Rd, Augusta, GA 30909 with Pastor Oscar Whiteside Jr., officiating.
