Obituary

Renelle McLaughlin passed away peacefully Friday, September 13, 2024, in Augusta, Georgia, at the age of 89, surrounded by her family.

Born June 28, 1935, in Winchendon, Massachusetts, to Camille L'Huillier and Loretta (Brousseau) L'Huillier, Renelle was a graduate of Murdock High School in Winchendon and earned a bachelor's degree in French from Regis College in Weston, Massachusetts, in 1957. She served as a linguist for the National Security Agency in Washington, D.C. before marrying LTJG (USN) John Koltes Harwood (dec.) of Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1958 and joining him in postings to Cyprus and Turkey. With him she had three sons: Christopher Harwood of North Attleboro, Massachusetts; Timothy Harwood of Silver Spring, Maryland; and Jonathan Harwood of Augusta, Georgia, all of whom survive her.

Renelle lived in Vienna, Virginia, Reading, Massachusetts, Warwick, Rhode Island, and Asheville, North Carolina, among other places, before moving to Augusta. She married Herbert James McLaughlin (dec.), also of Warwick, in 1985, and is survived by his children Nancy, Susan, Erin, Devin, and Steven. She was younger sister to the late Elaine Crowley and sister-in-law to the late Paul Crowley, of Dearborn, Michigan, and beloved aunt of their children Paul (dec.), Neil (dec.), James, Scott, and Susan.

Renelle was beloved by family and friends, especially her daughters-in-law Amy Beckerman of North Attleboro, Massachusetts, Allison Russell of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Dawn Harwood of Augusta, Georgia; her grandchildren Anna and Alex Harwood of Augusta Georgia; Amalia Navarro of London, England; and most recently the caring staff at the Thrive at Augusta assisted living facility.

Renelle's strong, caring, and upbeat spirit, as well as her love of art, music, antiques, tennis, and Westerns, will survive her in the memories of her family and friends, all of whom benefited from knowing her over the course of her long and full life.
