Patsy Van Buren McClendon, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on February 3, 2026, just a few months short of her 81st birthday. Born on June 27, 1945, she was known for her warmth, kindness, and the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life. She was born and raised in the Harrisburg area of Augusta. She retired from University Hospital as a unit clerk in the Neuro Intensive Care Unit with 32 years.
Patsy cherished her time spent with family and friends, creating lasting memories that spanned generations. She found immeasurable happiness in gatherings, whether enjoying leisurely afternoons at the lake or sharing coffee and conversation at Waffle House with her friends. A passionate supporter of her family's endeavors, Patsy was a constant presence at her grandson Chase's baseball games, cheering him on from the sidelines as he grew from a young player into a dedicated coach.
She is survived by her children, Helmer McClendon III and Jodi Odom, who carry forward her nurturing spirit. Patsy's legacy lives on in her grandchildren, Chase Odom and Zoey McClendon, and her great-grandchild, Emersyn Odom, all of whom held a special place in her heart as well as her nephews, James May (Judy) and Jonathan May (Beth) as well as many other extended family members.
Patsy also leaves behind her brother, Lee Van Buren (Hazel), who will forever remember their shared laughter and the moments spent together. Her passing marks the absence of a dedicated wife, as she reunites with her husband, Helmer McClendon Jr., who predeceased her. She is also reunited with her siblings, Raymond Van Buren and Vickie May, as well as her parents, Bowdre and Louise Van Buren.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during the visitation scheduled on February 6, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Thomas L. King Funeral Home and Cremation Services, followed by a memorial service at 6:00 PM at the same location in Martinez, GA with Rev. Ronny Spillers officiating.
Patsy Van Buren McClendon's loving spirit and fond memories will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, family, and friendship will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
