Obituary

Michael Joseph Eggerman, Sr. was born to Ruth and Paul Eggermann on November 19, 1946 in Terre Haute, Indiana, and died at home in his sleep on May 31, 2024 in Grovetown, Georgia.

Michael is survived by his wife Keum Bin (also known to the family as "KB"), and their 2 children, Nicole Eggerman Jun (spouse Michael) and Michael Eggerman, Jr. (spouse Rochelle), his former wife Diane Eggerman, their 2 children, Tanya Barrett (spouse Phil, Jr.) and Michele Eggerman, their four grandchildren, Philip III, Shannan and Caitlin Barrett and Eden Driescher, his brothers Dan and James Eggermann, and his sisters Marte and Paula Eggermann, all of whom he loved dearly.

While transferring colleges, Michael was drafted and served with bravery in Vietnam. He subsequently enjoyed a long, proud and accomplished career in military intelligence. To best serve his beloved country, he relinquished his U.S. residency in order to be at the forefront of a vital DOD mission in South Korea.

Michael grew to love both the vibrant energy of Seoul, his new home and headquarters, as well as the history and culture, natural beauty and tranquility of "the land of the morning calm", as Korea is known by natives and Michael liked to call it. He was able to return to the States only for short periods to visit, help or attend significant functions with his U.S. family until after his retirement in 2013, 40 years later.

Throughout his nearly 78 years, Michael lived and loved "large". He was personable, gregarious and generous (sometimes to a fault), and particularly prone to various displays of some 'grand gesture' intended to surprise and delight those he loved. He was blessed with the 'gift of gab' of his mother's Irish ancestry and embodied the dedicated work ethic of his father's German heritage.

While the fulfillment of Michael's wish to be interred in Arlington National Cemetery is assured, the process involved may take a year or longer, given his sudden death. The family is considering holding a memorial service in the interim, therefore, and will announce such plans when finalized.

Note that Michael's birth certificate contained a typo, a missing "n" at the end of his surname, which went undetected until his adulthood, so he and his immediate family use the surname "Eggerman".
