Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael Bougades, who was born in Norfolk, Virginia, and passed away in Augusta, Georgia, after a long and courageous struggle with his health. He is now free from his earthly bounds.

Michael was the beloved son of George Bougades and Geneva Belcher. As a boy, he was curious and full of life — spending his days catching turtles, building model kits, and surfing. He attended Fork Union Military Academy and Cox High School, later playing a key role in his family's restaurant and bar business, where he served as the backbone of operations.

Michael married his first wife, Miriam, and together they had two daughters, Genifer and Heather. He earned a bachelor's degree in engineering from Old Dominion University (ODU) and worked as a welder at the Norfolk Shipyard. A passionate lover of music, Michael especially loved the blues and found joy in playing the piano. Known for his vibrant, outgoing personality and quick wit, he filled every room with laughter and countless jokes.

Later in life, Michael met Jaqueline, with whom he shared three children — Lawanda, Aaron, and Daniel — as well as two bonus children, Dewey "Frankie" and Angel. A hardworking and resourceful man, he operated a tow truck company, sold cars, and ran a metal recycling business.

Michael was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Julius, Joel "Alex," Michael, Anikka, Jonas, Cassidy, Carter, and Grace.

In retirement, he pursued his love of chess, competing against players from around the world. He also remained deeply engaged in politics, even exploring the idea of starting his own movement, which he called "The Tea Party." He lived in Alabama for a time and eventually settled in Georgia, where he spent his final days.

Michael was a strong, sharp, and passionate man — a talented cook, a music lover, a skilled mechanic, and a man of many talents. Above all, he was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend whose legacy of love, humor, and resilience will live on in all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 PM Monday September 29, 2025 in the Thomas L. King Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Bellevue Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:30 prior to the service at the funeral home.
