Obituary

AUGUSTA, Ga. - On Saturday, July 6, 2013, Rev. Maynard M. Weaver, Sr. passed away peacefully with his wife Pauline holding his hand at bedside. Born on June 17, 1921 in Parkin, Ark., he was the son of the late Dock Martin and Minnie Elizabeth Weaver. Raised as a sharecropper s son, he knew the value of discipline and hard work at an early age. At the beginning of World War II, he joined the Army Air Corps, receiving his basic training at Ft. Lenore Wood, Mo. He was assigned to further training to Daniel Field in Augusta, Ga. During his training, he met the love of his life, Pauline Bargeron from Girard, Ga. They were married on September 28, 1943, after a whirlwind courtship. They would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this year. Upon his return to civilian life in 1945, he went to work for the Atlanta Gas Light Co. in Augusta. He retired after proudly serving over 38 years. In 1952, he felt the call of the Lord on his life to become an ordained minister. Ordained in 1953, Rev. Weaver became the minister of Riverside Baptist Church in Augusta. During his tenure, Rev. Weaver, with loving wife Pauline at his side, developed many building programs and grew the ministry. In 1967, Rev. Weaver and Pauline began the Dallas Heights Baptist Church in Hephzibah, Ga. For 39 years, he ministered at Dallas Heights until his retirement in 2006. Survivors: wife of 69 years, Pauline Bargeron Weaver; 2 sons, Maynard M. (Marty) Weaver, Jr., Philip E. Weaver and wife Rhonda; several grandchildren, great grandchildren and a large extended family. Special thanks is given to Mary Ella Hiers as a devoted caregiver, friend and special adopted daughter. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bellevue Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Richard Jeffcoat officiating. Rev. Weaver will lie in state at the chapel one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Church Benevolence Fund of Choice.
