IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Jean
(Blakey) Wylds
November 18, 1938 – September 19, 2025
Mary Jean Blakey Wylds, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, entered eternal rest on September 19, 2025, at the age of 86.
Born in Wilkes County, Georgia, on November 18, 1938, Jean was the daughter of the late John Ben and Nannie Mattie Blakey. She was preceded in death by her husband and the love of her life, J.W. "Jay" Wylds, as well as five siblings.
She is survived by her sister, Alice Phelps, and her sisters-in-love, Carolyn "Tootsie" Kent, Beverly Sprouse, and Sarah Swint. Jean leaves behind four children: Jimmy (Marcia) Wylds, Ric (Debra) Wylds, Debbie Bailey, and Brandi (Eric) Hood. She was a proud grandmother to Jennifer Murphy, Kim Tindell, Jimbo Bailey, Jason Wylds, Jaynie Bailey, Jonathan Hood, Taylor Bailey, and Richie Wylds, and she cherished the memory of her late granddaughter, Jessica Hadden. Jean was also blessed with many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren who will carry forward her legacy of love and laughter.
A devoted homemaker and lifelong Atlanta Braves fan, Jean found her greatest joy in time spent with family. She delighted in storytelling, often sharing humor and fond memories with loved ones in person and through her Facebook posts. Her kindness, warmth, and ability to make everyone feel welcome will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jean's children wish to express their sincere gratitude to Aunt Tootsie for the love and care she has always shown their mother, who often said she did not know what she would have done at times without her. They also would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to their cousin Sandy McGlohon for her love and support.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Road, Martinez, Georgia. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 12:00 noon in the Chapel of King Funeral Home. A private burial will follow at Westover Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the funeral home to help cover costs.
