Obituary

Mary E. Glisson, age 63, entered eternal rest on July 5th, 2022, at Augusta University Hospital. Born Mary Elizabeth Bell, her parents, William Edward and Mildred Geraldine Bell, were excited to welcome her birth on January 21st, 1959. She grew up in Martinez and attended the Seventh Day Adventist School. As a child, Mary dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. However, her love and compassion drew her to a career in nursing. Throughout her nursing career, Mary worked at Eisenhower and University Hospitals before later working at Kentwood Nursing Home. She had many animals over the years, but her love for dogs could not be denied. She enjoyed watching football and could always catch you up on the soaps. If anyone needed the scoop on Young and the Restless, Mary was the one to call. In her final years, Mary resided in a nursing facility where she enjoyed playing bingo, doing crafts, and talking with family and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her father, W.E. Bell; her mother, Geraldine Bell; her older brother, John R.Bell; her uncle, Harold Cliett; her aunt, Estelle Johnston; her aunt, Josephine Davis; her cousin, Smitty Cliett; and previous sister-in-law Rae Ann Usry, among others. She is survived by her daughter, Christy Bell Wright; her brother, Mark Edward Bell; her niece, Stephanie Bell Sims;her grandchildren, Daegon Bell, Jaylan Wright, Brandon Wright, and Lyrique Wright; her great-nephews, Tyler Sims and Conner Sims; dear friend, ex-husband and longtime love, Nikki Glisson; her lifelong friend, Caroline "Nita" Lawrence; son-in-law, Maurice Wright; and current sister-in-law, Liza Bell. Other survivors include nieces and nephews, Mary Elizabeth Bell Newsome, Thaddeus Bill Bell, Johnnathan Mark Bell, and their mother and previous sister-in-law Nancy Bell; Her many cousins include Jeanie, Marie, and Walter Cliett, along with Clifford, Sally, and Gene Johnston.

To know Mary was to love her. Although our family is grief-stricken, Mary would want us to celebrate her life. She has gone home to be with the Lord. No longer is she suffering here on Earth but surrounded by loved ones inside heaven's gates.
