Martha Knight Farmer, 87, entered into rest on May 13, 2026.

Martha was born on July 21, 1938 in Roanoke, Alabama to E.W. and Bobbie Knight. She rose from very humble beginnings, becoming the first in her family to attend college at the University of Alabama. In her time at the University, she earned a BS and MS in accounting and was one of only two female students in her class. She went on to earn her PhD and CPA and worked as a professor in the business school at Augusta College before taking on the role of dean and later serving as interim president of the college. After living in the South her entire life, Martha accepted a position as president of Castleton State College in rural Vermont where she served for 6 years before retiring and moving to Newnan, Georgia.

She is survived by her son, Claude Farmer III of Seattle and his family, Qin Peng, and children, Will Farmer IV, Kate Farmer and her son Owen Farmer, and Erin Farmer; and her daughter, Andrea Bustos of Augusta and her family, Rod Bustos, and their children, Sergio Bustos, Alex Bustos, and Daniel Bustos, as well as her sister, Melba Greene, nieces and nephews, Ben Hand, Bene Weems, Shay Hand, Tara Vagen, Jina Duquesne; and many great-nieces and great-nephews, and extended family. She is pre-deceased by her husband of 65 years, Claude William Farmer, Jr. and her sister, Nelda Hand.

Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday May 20th in the chapel at Thomas L. King Funeral Home, 124 Davis Road, Martinez, GA. 30907, with Chaplain Christine McTier officiating, immediately followed by interment at Westover Memorial Park, 2601 Wheeler Road, Augusta GA 30904.
