Marion "Moe" Joyner of Augusta, GA, Retired Lieutenant Richmond County Sheriff's Department, entered into rest on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. Moe was a native and lifelong resident of the Augusta area, and was the son of the late Walter Slaton and Essie Mae Carey Joyner. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps. Moe began his law enforcement career in 1965 with Richmond County Sheriff's Department, where he worked for 42 years, and following retirement continued his career with the Richmond County Marshall's Department. Throughout his life he enjoyed sports, having played softball and enjoyed umpiring for Richmond County Recreation Department. He loved watching NASCAR, Braves Baseball, and Georgia Bulldog Football. He attended Lumpkin Road Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Joyner; and his brothers, Charles Jerome "CJ" Joyner and Robert "Bobby" Joyner. Moe is survived by his children, Mike (Pam) Joyner, Chris (Tracy) Joyner, and Kevin (Kelly) Joyner; his brother, Ronnie L. Joyner; his grandchildren, Christy (Ryan) McArdle, Casey (Cody) Cozart, Chase Joyner, Cameron Joyner, Kory (Lea) Lewis, Justin Hilliard, Kolby Joyner, Kaleb Joyner, and Katie Grace Joyner; 9 great-grandchildren, Deacon McArdle, O'Brien Rose McArdle, Redmond McArdle, Creed McArdle, Hogan McArdle, Maguire Catherine McArdle, Coleman Elizabeth McArdle, Waylon Cozart, and Jolie Rae Cozart; numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews; and also his special friend, Gloria Axelson. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate hospice nurse, Tiffany Beatty with Regency Hospice who provided comfort and care during his final days. Your kindness and dedication will forever be remembered.
Pallbearers will be Chad Mallis, Mack Reeves, Parish Farrow, Glenn Rowland Sr., Tommy Weathers, and Tommy Whitener.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, March 11, 2024, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta GA 30906, with Rev. Brad Newsome officiating. Family and friends are to assemble at the graveside.
