Machiel Jan Groothand 80 of Augusta, Ga entered into rest June 22nd  2021 at 10pm at University hospital. He was a retired television broadcaster and traveled the country to bring underperforming stations up in their respective markets. He was also a published author of the Puppets Master, a book based loosely on his early experiences in war torn Holland. He also played piano and guitar and loved boating. Born in Zwolle' Holland, he moved to the US where he met Phyllis Raycroft whom he would marry and father 3 children. Eric Groothand (Julie) of Evans,Ga, Janice Groothand-Akins (James) of Harlem, Ga and Lisa Groothand-Cox of Augusta,Ga. As well as Kristen Rush-Kennedy. He had 6 grand children Wesley Vaughn (Joan)  Austin Vaughn, Morgan Groothand and Shane Peace all from the Augusta area as well as Jia and Rosten Kennedy (Kristen).  He is also survived by a sister Susan who lives in Australia
