MARTINEZ, Ga. - Larry P. Bondurant, 78, Martinez, Georgia (formerly of Galesburg, Illinois, and Livingston), passed into our Lord's arms on July 17, 2016, at Eisenhower Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 7, 1937, in Hoquiam, Washington. He grew up on a farm in Missouri and later Laurel, Montana, where he joined the U.S. Navy at age 17. He fought during the Korean and Vietnam wars, reaching the rank of chief. He served on the USS Lansing, USS Tillamook, USS Hancock, USS Forester, USS Mount Katmai, USS Rehoboth, USS Sproston, USS Bryce Canyon and USS Proteus. He retired in 1974 and went to work for the Burlington Santa Fe Railway in Montana. Later he was transferred to Galesburg, Illinois, and retired after 25 years. In 2013, he moved to Martinez, Georgia, to reside with his sister and her husband, Teresia and James White.
He is survived by three brothers, Keith, Roy and Frank; one sister, Rumina Teresia (White); his five children, Deborah Ann Bartlette, Larry Kit, Charles, Taffy and Seth; 12 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, Rumina and Victor; a brother, Oscar; and a sister, Margaret (Knott).
