Obituary

Chaplain Major Kermit Harvey Jones, U.S. Army Ret, age 92, beloved husband of Edith Wright Jones, entered into rest Monday, August 06, 2018 at Kentwood Nursing Facility. Chaplain Jones was born in Waycross, GA to the late Leland and Elizabeth Dykes Jones. Chaplain Jones retired as a Chaplain from the U.S. Army. During Chaplain Jones career in the military, he served during WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, and Granada. After Chaplain Jones retired from the U.S. Army, he earned his masters degree and began teaching for the Richmond and Columbia County School Systems. Chaplain Jones was a Mason in Lodge Number 469 in Plato, MO for 59 years and was also a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 9, 2018 at Pine View Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Full Military honors will be accorded by the U.S. Army Ceremonial Team. Family members include a son, Gary Philip Jones (Toni) of Augusta, GA; 2 daughters, Cynthia Nowak (Bradley) of El Paso, TX and Diana Lambert (Pete) of Evans, GA; 4 grandchildren, Michael P. Harley (Elizabeth), Danielle, Brooke, and Jon; 5 great grandchildren, Max, Davis, Mason, Lars, and Lucas; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Thomas L.
