Joseph R. Young, 86, of Evans, GA, passed away Tuesday, September 22, 2026, under the care of the Georgia War Veterans Nursing Home in Augusta, GA. Born in August 1940, in Daviess County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Roscoe Franklin and Mary Ruth Young.

Joseph was preceded in death by his loving wife, Sharron M. Young; his brothers, Larry, Bobby, and Franklin Young; and his sisters, Hattie Potts, Anna Lee Johnson, and Margaret Howard.

Joseph is survived by his daughter, Jennifer (Bill) Leiter of Evans, GA; his grandson, Parker Leiter of Evans, GA; and his sister, Connie Gibson of Louisville, KY.

Joseph proudly served two years in the United States Navy as a Seaman aboard the USS Everglades. He was a member of Immaculate Catholic Church in Owensboro, Kentucky, and St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church in Grovetown, Georgia.

Joseph grew up on a farm, where he developed a lifelong love for animals. He enjoyed watching and listening to birds, taking nature walks, spending time with his only grandson, and sharing his love of Jesus with those around him.

Joseph earned a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Brescia University and a Master’s degree in Business from Murray State University. He retired as a financial advisor for Lincoln National in Owensboro, KY.

Joseph will be cremated at Thomas L. King Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Martinez, GA, and laid to rest at a private ceremony at Owensboro Memorial Gardens in Owensboro, KY at a later date.
