AUGUSTA, Ga. - Mr. Jimmy W. Farris, 81, husband of Mrs. Karen S. Farris, entered into rest Sunday, May 10th at home surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Farris was born in Augusta, GA to the late George C. and Allison Harper Farris. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas L. King's Chapel with Chaplain Denise Dewey officiating. Interment services will follow at Westover Memorial Park. Mr. Farris was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Lorri Mozelle Lunsford Farris and a sister, Mrs. Laverne Farris Wetzel. Mr. Farris is survived by his wife, Karen S. Farris; a son, Walt Farris of Martinez; stepchildren, Felicia Elstor of Thomson, GA and David Brookover of Jacksonville, FL; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two nieces, Terry Kroll and Sheryl Carpenter. Mr. Farris played on the 1952 Richmond County State Baseball Championship Team; he was the first high school student to get a full baseball scholarship to the University of Georgia. He later played minor league baseball with the San Francisco Giants on the same team with Willie McCovey and Juan Marichal. After his baseball career, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and his first Duty Station was the USS Yorktown. He was a member of the American Legion Post #192, where he served two times at the Post Commander. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Legion Post #192, 275 Legion Road, Evans, GA 30809 and the Augusta Richmond County Recreation Department, designated for the Baseball League, 2027 Lumpkin Rd., Augusta, GA 30906.
