Mrs. Jeanette Dorothy Powell Matthews, 75, of Augusta, GA, entered into rest on October 24, 2021. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday October 27, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Westover Memorial Park with Rev. Dewain French officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:45 at the funeral home on Wednesday prior to the service. Pallbearers will be Jay Matthews, Gavin Matthews, Frank Rachels, John Ertz, Brandon Rachels, and Evan Royster.

Mrs. Matthews was born in Augusta, GA and was the daughter of the late William Alex Powell and Dorothy Josephine Barnette Powell. She was a teacher at Wee Wisdom Christian School. She also loved the beach, the mountains and going shopping, but most of all she enjoyed being with her family.

She is survived by her son Michael Jay Matthews (Clairissa), of Grovetown, her three daughters Janice Rachels (Frank), of Augusta, Joyce Ertz (John), of Evans, Julie Womble (Jay), of Winder GA, 12 grandchildren Tiffany, Brandon, Victoria, Evan, Jonah, Olivia, Kerrigan, Hannah, Gracie, Gavin, Paisley, Emma, and five great grandchildren.
